Community and Family Services
The JFCC will no longer offer Social Services in the form of direct
counseling or running of Group Therapies, but with the assistance of
Cantor Bruce Malin we will be a liaison for anyone seeking assistance.
Cantor Malin has been intimately involved in our community for over 25
years serving as the Cantor of the Cape Cod Synagogue and being the
Jewish Chaplain at the Cape Cod Hospital. He has spent countless hours
visiting the Falmouth Hospital, RHCI and other local facilities
providing comfort to Jews in need. Anyone seeking assistance will be
able to contact Cantor Malin via email at cantorb@comcast.net or by
leaving a message at the JFCC Office and he will respond to you as soon
as possible.

I have been busy preparing for and presenting the
concert of Cities of Light with Rebecca Joy Fletcher. She was a
wonderful performer and attendance was up to 130 people. The Federation
helped to advertise the concert and paid for the accompanist. I was
pleased with this event and I believe people attending enjoyed it and
responded with enthusiasm. Again, I thank the Board of the Federation
for their support.
I continue to visit people in the Cape Cod Hospital three times per
week. I also visit on request, the Falmouth Hospital and JML. I
participated in a memorial service for those who died within the last 6
months at JML. I average seeing about 45 people in hospitals and nursing
homes per month. Of course, during the summer when the population
increases, there are more "out of towners" around and they are comforted
by the Jewish community's commitment to attending to the needs of the
sick. I have visited homes of people that under hospice care when I get
a call from one of the local hospices. Also, I have been to many of the
nursing homes and respond whenever there are requests for visits.
During the week, I respond to phone calls and messages from people
needed help giving advice or recommendations for other services. In some
cases I have given out food coupons or have paid small bills for needed
services. I am arranging with Ken Kipnes to be able to write checks
directly when the need arises.
The visitation cards for the hospital are being revised and I will work
with Carol in the office to get those over to the hospital for our
volunteers.
Respectfully submitted,
Cantor Bruce Malin

Effective August 2010, Ann Beth Ostroff is no longer working with us at the JFCC. Ann Beth has gradually been reducing her hours and we jointly decided it would be in both our best interests for Ann Beth to concentrate on her new job. Ann Beth has done a terrific job as our Social Worker and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
